Why go

Yeouido Hangang Park is where Seoul goes to sit by the river. It’s free, it never closes, and on a clear evening the lawns fill with people picnicking, cycling, and watching the sunset over the water. It isn’t a ticketed attraction; it’s a slice of everyday city life, and one of the easiest ways to join it.

What to see

The riverbank at sunset

The long, paved riverside path is the heart of the park. Sunset is the best time for river views and skyline photos, and after dark the 63 Building across the skyline makes a good night backdrop.

Cherry blossoms in spring

In early April, cherry blossoms draw some of the park’s biggest crowds of the year. For photos without a wall of people, go on a weekday morning rather than a weekend afternoon.

Seoul International Fireworks Festival

The fireworks festival over the river is usually held in early October and is one of the busiest nights of the year here. Dates change each year, so check the official Hangang site before you plan around it.

Bikes and open lawns

Rental kiosks near Yeouinaru Station rent bikes by the hour on a first-come basis, and some kiosks have multi-seat family bikes. The grassy areas are open for kites, ball games, and spreading out a picnic mat.

Tips by traveler

Families of 4+

• Flat paths and a children’s playground make this an easy, free half-day outing.
• Picnicking is welcome. Bring your own food and drinks or buy them from convenience stores inside the park.
• Most of the riverbank has no shade. In summer, bring hats and sunscreen for the kids.

First-timers & explorers

• Do what locals do: jog, cycle, or picnic along the river. It’s a better window into daily Seoul than most paid sights.
• Bike rental near Yeouinaru Station is by the hour with no reservation needed.

Weekend trippers

• A sunset picnic with convenience-store snacks or delivered fried chicken and beer (chimaek) is the classic Han River experience.
• Cherry blossom season is crowded; a weekday morning gives you cleaner photos.

Shoppers & foodies

• After shopping on Yeouido, walk down for a free evening by the water with views of the 63 Building.
• Bike rental and river cruise boarding points nearby make for a low-cost add-on.

Good for families

The riverbank paths are flat and paved end to end, so a stroller rolls easily. Elevators and ramps connect the Yeouinaru Station exit down to park level.

Children have a playground, open lawns for running around, and a Cascade water-play area in the warmer months. Some bike rental kiosks offer multi-seat family bikes, which are easier than managing several small bikes along a busy path.

Public restrooms are plentiful; the official park facility map lists 24 of them. A nursing room inside the park isn’t confirmed on official sources. Convenience stores and an information center near Yeouinaru Station may have baby-care facilities, but check on-site rather than counting on it.

Large families do well here because there’s no table to fight over. Bring a picnic mat, or rent one, and you can seat six or eight people on the grass. Convenience stores have small outdoor seating only. The main drawback is sun: shade is scarce on most of the riverbank.

Driving is possible but parking is paid: ₩2,000 for the first 30 minutes, then ₩300 per 10 minutes.

Getting there

Take Line 5 to Yeouinaru Station and use Exit 3; the park is about a 4-minute walk. Seasonal facilities such as bike rental and the outdoor pool keep their own hours, so check the official Hangang site if you’re coming for one of them.

For a taxi, show the driver 여의도 한강공원.

Pair it with: a late afternoon walk along the river, then stay for sunset and order chicken and beer to your picnic mat for dinner.

Eat nearby

• Chimaek: fried chicken and beer delivered to the riverbank is the park’s signature meal.
• Convenience stores: the easiest source of picnic snacks, drinks, and instant noodles inside the park.
